Hon. Colonial Secretary,

I beg to inform you that on the 25th January last,

a Chinese male jumped off the 10.30 a.m. ferry from Teim Sha Tsui

when the launch was midway across the Harbour. Mr. B. D. Evans,

of the Royal Observatory, went in after him, merely divesting himself of his coat, and succeeded in rescuing him. The man died in hospital later. Mr. Evans' action was a very praiseworthy one, considering the state of the weather, and the temperature

of the water at the time. I have accordingly brought the matter

to your notice. My informant was one of the passengers on the ferry.

sa.

P. P. J. Wodehouse,

p. Capt. Supt. of Police,

4th February, 1920.
